Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - At last week’s Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce luncheon, business leaders gathered to hear firsthand accounts from two immigrants now living and working in the United States.
Juliana White, originally from the Philippines, and Pierre Cadieux, from Canada, both spoke about their paths to settling in America and the challenges and opportunities they have encountered since arriving.
White, who has lived in the United States since 2012, described the immigration process as difficult and at times overwhelming.
Cadieux, who came to the United States in 2021, said his transition was somewhat easier due to his fluency in English, which helped him adjust more quickly to both daily life and professional environments.
White also shared that one of her ongoing challenges has been learning specialized terminology used in the workplace, which can be difficult for non-native speakers adjusting to new professional environments.
Cadieux explained that he was able to continue working within the banking industry after moving from Canada, which made his early transition smoother. However, he noted that changing jobs more recently has required additional adjustment.
According to immigration information, there are approximately 185 different types of U.S. visas, reflecting a wide range of pathways for individuals coming to the United States for work, study, or residency.
