St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - After 30 years of serving his community, a longtime member of local law enforcement is preparing to step away.
Sergeant Gary “Lynn” Gerstenschlager of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department has officially announced his retirement, effective May 1, 2026, marking the end of a distinguished three-decade career in St. Francois County.
Throughout his career, Gerstenschlager held a number of important roles within the department. He began his service as a deputy in the detention division at the old jail and went on to serve as a patrol deputy, corporal, patrol sergeant, and most recently as supervisor over process service.
St. Francois County Sheriff Jeff Crites reflected on Gerstenschlager’s career and contributions to the department.
Crites says Gerstenschlager’s leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication have left a lasting impact on both the department and the community it serves.
In addition to his law enforcement duties, Gerstenschlager was actively involved in community outreach efforts. He participated in programs such as Shop-With-A-Cop, helping provide holiday experiences for local children, and served with the Backstoppers, supporting families of fallen first responders.
