Major Crash Shuts Down Interstate 55 in Crystal City

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A massive accident has shut down both northbound and southbound Interstate 55 in Crystal City Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say multiple vehicles were involved in the crash just south of the Highway 61/67 and I-55 interchange. Seven confirmed entrapments have been reported, and medical helicopters were called to the scene to assist with the injured.

Both directions of Interstate 55 remain closed until further notice as emergency crews continue rescue operations and clear the wreckage. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
