Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Mineral Area College has announced that automotive technology instructor James Whaley has earned the prestigious designation of ASE World Class Technician, one of the highest professional recognitions in the automotive industry.
The honor is awarded by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, also known as ASE, along with the Auto Care Association. The designation recognizes technicians who have demonstrated an exceptional level of knowledge and skill across multiple areas of the automotive field.
Becoming an ASE World Class Technician is a rare accomplishment. To qualify, a technician must earn and maintain 22 specific ASE certifications. Those certifications cover a broad range of technical areas, including automotive repair, collision work, medium and heavy truck systems, and advanced engine performance.
According to Mineral Area College, while roughly 250,000 technicians hold ASE certifications, only about 2,000 have achieved World Class Recognition since the program was created more than 35 years ago. In most years, fewer than 50 technicians nationwide reach that level.
MAC President Dr. Joe Gilgour said Whaley’s achievement adds a high level of distinction to the college’s MAC Tech Automotive Technology program and serves as an example to students pursuing careers in the skilled trades.
College officials say Whaley’s accomplishment gives students the opportunity to learn from an instructor who has reached the highest standards of technical excellence in the industry. His experience and expertise are expected to further strengthen the program’s training in modern vehicle systems and advanced diagnostics.
Whaley’s name will now be permanently added to the ASE World Class Technician roster, marking a career milestone reached by only a small number of automotive professionals nationwide.
