Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - With Country Days set to take over Farmington this weekend, St. Francois County Sheriff Jeff Crites is reminding residents and visitors to take simple precautions to stay safe while enjoying the annual celebration.
Sheriff Crites says large community events bring excitement, but also require extra awareness due to heavy foot traffic, crowded streets, and increased vehicle activity in and around the festival area.
Authorities are encouraging families to plan ahead before arriving at the event. That includes setting a designated meeting spot in case anyone gets separated, especially for children attending the carnival or walking through vendor areas.
Safety officials also recommend staying hydrated, wearing comfortable shoes, and being mindful of changing weather conditions throughout the weekend. With summer heat expected, frequent breaks and water intake are especially important.
Drivers are being asked to slow down in the festival zone, watch for pedestrians, and follow all posted detours or traffic control instructions from law enforcement and event staff.
Sheriff Crites says deputies will be on-site throughout Country Days to assist with traffic control, respond to emergencies, and help ensure the event remains safe and enjoyable for everyone attending.
