St. Francois County, Mo. (KFMO) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving Missouri is teaming up with law enforcement agencies statewide this weekend for Saturation Saturday, a high-visibility campaign aimed at preventing impaired driving during the busy Labor Day holiday.
MADD National Ambassador Erica Linn says the initiative, held in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, focuses on increasing checkpoints and patrols to keep roads safe.
NHTSA reports 511 people were killed nationwide in drunk driving crashes over Labor Day weekend in 2023. In Missouri, alcohol-related traffic deaths have risen 20 percent since 2019.
More than 100 police departments will take part in the effort. MADD volunteers and staff will also be present to reinforce the message that lives can be saved with one simple choice, never drive under the influence.
