Hollywood, Ca. (KFMO) - A Missouri singer is heading into the national spotlight after being named the newest “American Idol” champion.
Missouri native Hannah Harper has officially won Season 24 of the television singing competition “American Idol.” Harper claimed the title during Monday night’s nationally televised finale after weeks of performances that earned praise from judges and viewers across the country.
The 25-year-old stay-at-home mother from Willow Springs, Missouri defeated finalists Jordan McCullough of Tennessee and Keyla Richardson of Florida in the live finale. Richardson was eliminated earlier in the night, leaving Harper and McCullough as the final two contestants before America’s vote named Harper the winner.
Harper first gained attention during her audition with an emotional original song titled “String Cheese,” which focused on her personal struggles with postpartum depression. Judge Carrie Underwood reportedly praised Harper’s authenticity and emotional delivery throughout the season.
During the three-hour finale, Harper performed alongside other finalists and celebrity guests before closing the show with a rendition of “At The Cross (Love Ran Red)” after host Ryan Seacrest announced her victory.
The finale also featured performances from several major artists, including Alicia Keys, Clay Aiken, Jason Mraz, Brad Paisley, and Mötley Crüe.
Harper becomes the latest winner in the long-running history of “American Idol,” joining past champions including Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
