Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Health care coverage could cost Missourians significantly more next year as open enrollment approaches.
Across the country, insurance companies are raising premiums due to increased tariffs on medical equipment, drugs, and supplies, along with the expiration of enhanced premium tax credits that had kept costs lower.
According to the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, several providers plan sharp increases for 2026. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield expects premiums to rise an average of 22.7%, with some plans climbing as high as 46%. United Health Care projects an average increase of nearly 15%, while Cox Health Plans anticipates hikes exceeding 30%. The higher rates come as federal premium assistance is set to expire, meaning Missourians could see out-of-pocket costs jump by an average of 75%.
Medicare plans are also expected to see increases heading into the new year.
