Missouri Agencies Launch Winter Weather Preparedness Week

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - After a quick shift from summer to fall, Missouri could soon see winter’s arrival, along with snow, sleet and ice.

To help residents get ready, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) have designated November 3–7, 2025, as Winter Weather Preparedness Week across the state. Winter brings sub-freezing temperatures as well as dangerous snow and ice storms to the state. It is important that residents should plan ahead and have several days’ worth of supplies ready.

Each day of the week will highlight a different safety topic, including ice and snow safety, winter weather terminology, and cold-related health risks like hypothermia and frostbite. State officials emphasize road safety, urging Missourians to avoid non-essential travel during storms. Last winter, more than 3,300 crashes occurred during snow, sleet or ice, resulting in 819 injuries and 10 deaths.

Residents are encouraged to assemble home and vehicle emergency kits, check alternate heat sources, and review safety plans. More winter safety information is available at mo.gov/winter-weather-safety.
