Missouri Drought Alert Extended Into 2026

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri’s ongoing drought conditions will continue to receive heightened state attention well into next year.

Governor Mike Kehoe has extended the statewide Drought Alert, originally issued September 22, 2025 and set to expire December 1. The new expiration date is April 1, 2026. When the alert was first declared, 85 counties and the City of St. Louis were included. Since then, drought conditions have expanded significantly. Twenty-one additional counties have now been added, bringing the total to more than 100 counties under the alert. Kehoe says the extension is necessary as large portions of Missouri continue to experience moderate, severe, or even extreme drought. He noted that the state’s drought-response efforts remain critical as dry conditions persist.

Parkland counties currently under the Drought Alert include Iron, Jefferson, Madison, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, and Washington counties. Kehoe’s order also states that any additional counties entering drought status will be added to the alert as conditions warrant.
