Missouri SNAP Benefits Delayed Due to Federal Government Shutdown

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Social Services has announced that November 2025 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits cannot be issued at this time due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, which fully funds SNAP, informed state agencies that there is currently insufficient federal funding to distribute benefits for November. Missouri’s Department of Social Services says it is monitoring the situation and will issue benefits as soon as federal funds become available.

The agency encourages participants to manage their remaining October balances carefully while awaiting further updates. DSS is continuing to work with the USDA and other federal partners and will provide new information as it becomes available. The agency is also advising affected Missourians to review local food resources such as food banks and pantries, and to monitor DSS social media channels and its website for the latest updates.

Feeding Missouri and local food banks have prepared for an anticipated increase in demand due to the SNAP disruption and are asking communities to provide additional support to help meet the need.

The Family Support Division will continue to accept and process SNAP applications, reported changes, and mid-certifications received on or after November 1 as normal.
