St. Louis, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri leaders announced Tuesday that traffic fatalities declined in 2025 for the third year in a row, marking a milestone in the state’s efforts to improve roadway safety.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sergeant Dallas Thompson says preliminary data shows a continued decrease.
Thompson says compared to three years ago, Missouri has seen a 14 percent reduction in roadway deaths. It is the first three-year decline since 2019. MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger says drivers must continue to speak up and practice safe habits on Missouri roads.
Hassinger says while numbers trended the wrong way at times last year, safer choices by drivers and the work of MoDOT partners helped reverse that trend. He says MoDOT’s goal remains zero fatalities. The announcement comes as MoDOT and its partners roll out an updated Show-Me Zero plan, focusing on education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response. MoDOT State Highway Safety and Traffic Engineer Jon Nelson encouraged the public to get involved.
