Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Transportation will be out in full force this weekend working to clear snow from area highways, but motorists are being warned that travel conditions will remain hazardous.
MoDOT Area Engineer Corbin Carlton says drivers should check road conditions before heading out by using the MoDOT Traveler Information Map, which is available to everyone.
Carlton explains that MoDOT treats highways differently across the state based on traffic volume, roadway type, and weather conditions, prioritizing major routes and interstates before moving to secondary roads.
MoDOT crews began pre-treating highways Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the winter weather. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of snow and ice.
