Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Social Services announced Wednesday that the state has received federal approval to issue partial Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for November.
Guidance from the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service will allow the state to distribute some benefits despite the ongoing federal funding issues. Missouri DSS Director Jess Bax says the department had prepared for the possibility that no benefits would be available this month, but the partial funding will help families maintain access to food while the situation continues to develop. DSS is working with its EBT vendor to ensure benefits are issued as soon as possible, with more details to be released when available.
Meanwhile, DSS is coordinating with USDA and local partners to help families locate food banks and other resources until full funding is restored.
