Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - Hundreds of thousands of Missourians who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are expected to receive their November payments by the middle of next week.
The Missouri Department of Social Services confirmed Saturday that it is working to distribute the delayed benefits as soon as possible. Payments have been disrupted during the ongoing federal government shutdown, leaving many families uncertain about when they would receive assistance.
The department said it is coordinating with its EBT vendor to ensure benefits are issued promptly.
The update follows a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, which granted the Trump administration's emergency request to temporarily block a lower court order requiring full funding of SNAP during the shutdown.
Missouri officials had previously indicated that they were attempting to assemble partial funding for November benefits.
Approximately one in eight Americans relies on SNAP, including around 650,000 residents across Missouri.
The state has not yet provided specific dates for when individual benefit payouts will appear, but officials say more information will be released as logistics are finalized.
A potential end to the goverment shutdown may be near, as a late night vote Sunday to end the shutdown took place, and looks promising.
