Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - After widespread flooding across the Parkland last week, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to use caution when traveling, especially when water is covering roadways.
Sergeant Dallas Thompson says last week’s heavy rainfall shows how quickly flash flooding can develop across the region.
Thompson says drivers should remain vigilant during periods of heavy rain and avoid attempting to drive through water-covered roadways, which can quickly become dangerous.
Officials say even a small amount of moving water can sweep vehicles off the roadway, making flooded roads especially hazardous.
Motorists are encouraged to check travel conditions before heading out. Up-to-date road closures and conditions can be found using the MoDOT Traveler Information Map, which provides real-time information about road conditions, delays, and alternate routes across Missouri.
