Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek brought two statewide programs to the spotlight in the Parkland on Monday, highlighting opportunities for businesses and families across the region.
As part of a statewide outreach effort, Malek visited multiple locations across the Parkland to promote the MO BUCK$ Program and the MO ABLE Program.
The MO BUCK$ program is designed to help small businesses, farms, and local governments access low-interest loans through partnerships with local banks. Malek says the initiative has continued to grow and deliver results in recent years.
One local success story comes from Matt and Bendi Dunn, owners of Keystone Villas in Leadington. Bendi Dunn says the program has made a significant difference by lowering borrowing costs and making expansion more feasible.
She also noted the importance of the Treasurer’s visit, calling it an encouraging sign of support for small businesses in the region.
Financial institutions are also seeing the benefits. Andy Buchanan, Farmington Market Manager for First State Community Bank, says their partnership with the program has helped numerous clients secure financing.
Buchanan adds that the bank has worked with many participants through the program, reinforcing its value to the community.
Malek says visiting participating banks and businesses is a key part of raising awareness and showing how the program works in real-world settings.
During his tour, Malek also visited Belgrade State Bank in Potosi, another financial partner in the MO BUCK$ program.
In addition, Malek spoke at both the Farmington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion Hall in Farmington, focusing on the MO ABLE program. This initiative allows individuals with disabilities save money in tax-advantaged accounts without affecting eligibility for certain benefits.
