Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Nearly 600 students from schools across St. Francois County and surrounding counties participated Thursday in the annual Special Olympics event held at Farmington High School.
The event brought together athletes, educators, volunteers, and supporters for a day focused on sportsmanship, inclusion, and celebration. Students competed in a variety of activities throughout the day while classmates, staff members, and community supporters cheered them on.
North St. Francois County Assistant Superintendent Jason Toney says the annual event is a meaningful experience for both the athletes and the communities involved.
The Special Olympics event has become a longstanding tradition in the area, highlighting the abilities and achievements of student-athletes while promoting teamwork and encouragement among participating schools.
Schools from throughout the region took part in the competition, helping create a festive and supportive atmosphere at Farmington High School.
