St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A 61-year-old man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting Thursday afternoon at the Walnut Grove Trailer Park in St. Francois County.
According to the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 2:26 p.m. Thursday along with officers from the Farmington Police Department after receiving a report of a shooting at the trailer park.
When law enforcement arrived, they found 61-year-old Michael D. Jenkins suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite emergency efforts, Jenkins later died from those injuries at 3:53 p.m.
Authorities say 23-year-old William C. Meador was taken into custody without incident following the shooting. He was booked into the St. Francois County Adult Detention Center on charges of Second-Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action.
Investigators say they believe the incident was isolated and involved individuals who lived at the residence. Officials also say there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Formal charges are being requested through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
The investigation remains active as detectives continue gathering evidence and conducting interviews. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
