One Dead, Three Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 8 in Washington County

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Washington County woman was killed and three other people were seriously injured following a head-on crash Friday evening on Missouri Highway 8 east of Otter Trail Road.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m. on June 12.

Investigators say a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a 21-year-old man from Potosi was traveling eastbound on Highway 8 and attempting to pass several vehicles. Troopers reported the pickup entered the westbound lane and failed to observe an oncoming 2017 Volkswagen Jetta.

The Dodge Ram then struck the Volkswagen head-on.

The driver of the Jetta, a 30-year-old woman from Leasburg, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 10-year-old girl riding in the Jetta sustained serious injuries and was flown by Arch Air Medical's Arch 6 helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

The driver of the pickup suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by Arch 10 helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. A 20-year-old female passenger from Viburnum riding in the pickup was also seriously injured and transported by Washington County Ambulance to Mercy South Hospital.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the pickup truck driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene.
