Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Rapidly rising water early Thursday morning led to flooding in parts of Park Hills, prompting precautionary evacuations for residents near Flat River Creek.
According to officials, the situation began around 1:05 a.m. Thursday, when water levels in Flat River Creek began rising quickly. The high water caused flooding along Front Street and Camilla Avenue, leading Park Hills Public Safety personnel to respond to the area.
Emergency personnel went door to door notifying residents of the rising water and assisting those who chose to evacuate as a precaution. Nearly 40 homeowners in the affected area were notified during the response.
A temporary shelter was established at Park Hills City Hall for residents needing a place to stay until conditions improved. Officials say the shelter was available for anyone displaced by the flooding.
Multiple agencies worked together in the response effort, including the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department, St. Francois County EMS, the St. Francois County 911 Center, the Leadwood Fire Department, and the Irondale Fire Department.
The East Missouri Action Agency also assisted by providing meals for residents and emergency responders working in the affected neighborhood.
Officials say no injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the flooding.
As water levels have receded, Park Hills city departments are now working on cleanup and recovery efforts, including water removal and clearing debris from roadways in the affected areas.
