Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Park Hills Police Department is stepping up patrols at Columbia Park following an incident during the park’s annual Christmas lights display on Thursday evening.
According to the department, officers responded on December 4, 2025 to a report of an individual damaging a vehicle in the area. Police say the person was located quickly and taken into custody without further disruption to visitors.
While incidents like this are uncommon, police acknowledge the concern it may raise during a popular holiday event that draws families from across the Parkland.
To maintain safety and offer reassurance throughout the month-long lights display, the department will begin enhanced patrols, including a daily check of the park between 5 and 5:30 p.m. as visitors start to arrive. Additional unannounced patrols will also take place during evening hours.
“These extra patrols are simply a proactive step,” said Park Hills Police Chief Richard McFarland. “We want families to feel comfortable, safe, and able to enjoy the holiday lights without worry.”
The department encourages anyone who notices suspicious activity at Columbia Park to contact Park Hills Police at 573-431-3131.
