Potosi Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit in Washington County

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Potosi man is facing multiple charges after leading officers on a high-speed pursuit Friday, November 21, 2025.

According to the Potosi Police Department, the pursuit began within the city limits and continued westbound on State Highway 8. After the vehicle crossed into Washington County, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office took over the chase, following the suspect for roughly 11 miles at speeds that exceeded 100 miles per hour.

Authorities say the driver eventually surrendered after realizing he would not be able to evade law enforcement. Deputies arrested Austin L. King, of Potosi. King is charged with aggravated fleeing a traffic stop, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and operating a vehicle in a careless manner.

His bond has been set at $50,000 cash only.
