Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - A concerning phone call made to a Potosi school Wednesday afternoon led to a police investigation and precautionary actions by the Potosi School District.
According to a statement released by the Potosi Police Department, officers were contacted by school officials regarding the call. Authorities say the person responsible for making the call has been taken into custody.
Police Chief Michael Gum said the matter remains under investigation and additional information will be released once the investigation is further completed.
Chief Gum also praised school officials for their quick action in contacting law enforcement.
“My officers ensured our children were safe. Thank you to our School Administration for their quick action in contacting us quickly to resolve this issue,” Chief Gum said in the statement.
The Potosi School District also addressed the situation Wednesday afternoon, saying students were kept inside school buildings for the remainder of the school day as a precaution due to a situation occurring in the community.
District officials stated there was no direct threat to the school and that learning and normal activities continued inside the buildings while administrators remained in contact with local law enforcement.
“Student safety is always our top priority, and we will share any updates if needed,” the district said in its statement.
No additional details about the phone call or the individual in custody have been released at this time.
