Potosi School District Breaks Ground on Performing Arts Auditorium and Storm Shelter

Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - Officials with the Potosi School District broke ground Thursday on a long-awaited Performing Arts Auditorium and storm shelter project that leaders say will serve both students and the broader community for years to come.

Superintendent Bryce Wilson says he is proud of the Potosi community and the support behind the project, which was made possible through a recently passed bond issue.

Wilson says the project represents far more than a new building, calling it an investment in students, opportunities, and the future of the community.

The 28,000 square-foot facility will feature a dedicated performing arts auditorium designed specifically for student performances, addressing what district leaders say has long been a need for proper space for music, theater, and other programs.

Wilson outlined several key benefits of the new facility, including, the creation of a dedicated home for the arts where students will no longer need to adapt to spaces not designed for performances, recognition of a wide range of student talents, and expanded opportunities for community use such as concerts, plays, ceremonies, guest speakers, and public events.

The building will also include a 6,700 square-foot storm shelter, providing an added layer of safety for students and residents during severe weather.

District officials say the project also reflects a long-term investment in future generations, noting that just as past residents built facilities used today, this new center will serve students who have not yet entered school.

The project carries an estimated cost of around $14 million and is part of the district’s broader effort to enhance educational and community spaces across Potosi.
