Route 61 and Route Y Intersection Improvements Set to Begin in Bloomsdale

Bloomsdale Mo. (KFMO) - Construction is expected to begin as early as mid-summer 2026 on a Missouri Department of Transportation project aimed at improving safety and traffic operations at the intersection of Route 61 and Route Y in Bloomsdale.

The project will upgrade the existing intersection by widening portions of the roadway and increasing several turning radiuses to improve turning movements for motorists. In addition to the pavement improvements, crews will make drainage upgrades and install a new pedestrian crossing along Route 61.

MoDOT officials say the work is designed to enhance both vehicle and pedestrian travel through the busy intersection in Ste. Genevieve County.

Construction will be staged to minimize disruptions and allow the roadway to remain open throughout the project. However, drivers should be prepared for minor detours and temporary traffic changes as work progresses.

The contract for the project was awarded to Fronabarger Concreters, Inc. in the amount of $789,457. The work includes pavement improvements and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk enhancements at the intersection.

If weather and construction schedules cooperate, work is expected to begin by mid-summer and be completed by winter 2026.
