Route 61/Route Y Intersection Improvements in Bloomsdale Begin July 30

Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that contractor crews will begin improvements at the U.S. Route 61 and Route Y intersection in Bloomsdale aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.

The project will include widening portions of the existing intersection and increasing turning radiuses to improve turning movements for motorists. Crews will also make drainage improvements and install a pedestrian crossing along Route 61.

Construction will take place in two phases.

During the first phase, motorists will still be able to use Route Y to access northbound U.S. Route 61 while work is underway.

During the second phase, the intersection will be closed completely, and drivers will be directed to follow a signed detour around the work zone.

Weather permitting, construction is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 30, and continue through Monday, September 21.

MoDOT encourages drivers to slow down in work zones, remain alert for workers and equipment, and allow extra travel time while the project is underway.
