Sex Offender Featured in “Sexual Offender Saturday” Captured in St. Louis

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A man wanted in St. Francois County for failing to register as a sex offender has been captured following a multi-agency investigation.

37-year-old David Lee Johnson was taken into custody without incident on October 30, 2025, in St. Louis. Johnson was the first featured subject in the department’s “Sexual Offender Saturday” initiative, launched in July to help locate individuals wanted for sex offender registry violations.

Investigators say Johnson had been moving between several homeless encampments in the St. Louis area in an effort to evade arrest. His capture was the result of a coordinated effort between a St. Francois County Sheriff’s Deputy and investigators with the Child Abduction Criminal Taskforce.

Johnson was wanted on a felony warrant for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in St. Francois County.
