Small Earthquake Recorded Near Fenton Friday Morning

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A minor earthquake rattled parts of eastern Missouri early Friday morning.

.According to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.4 quake was recorded at 5:27 a.m. on September 5. The epicenter was located about 2.3 miles east-southeast of Fenton and 3.1 miles southwest of Concord, with a depth of roughly 16 kilometers. While the tremor was small, some residents in the surrounding area may have felt brief shaking. No damage or injuries have been reported.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in Missouri, though most are minor and go largely unnoticed.
