St. Francois County Issues No Burn Advisory Due to High Winds, Dry Conditions

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - St. Francois County officials have issued a No Burn Advisory effective immediately because of dangerous fire weather conditions across the area.

According to the St. Francois County Commission, the combination of high winds and dry conditions has significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading brush and grass fires.

County leaders are strongly urging residents to avoid all outdoor burning until conditions improve. That includes the burning of brush, leaves, trash, and other outdoor debris.

Officials say even a small fire can quickly become dangerous when strong winds are present, allowing embers to spread and ignite nearby grass, brush, or structures.

The advisory comes as fire departments across the region have kept busy battling brush fires and remain alert for the possibility of fast-moving outdoor fires that can threaten lives, homes, property, and emergency responders.

Residents are reminded that any fire that escapes containment could lead to a response from local fire departments and create unnecessary danger during already hazardous conditions.

County officials are asking the public to use caution and postpone any outdoor burning for the next several days until weather conditions improve.

St. Francois County says it will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as necessary.
