St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - St. Francois County Presiding Commissioner Harold Gallaher has announced that he will retire at the conclusion of his current term, ending a 12-year tenure as the county's top elected official.
Gallaher said he had initially planned to run for another term but ultimately decided the time was right to retire from public service.
During his time as presiding commissioner, Gallaher has overseen numerous county projects and initiatives while working alongside county officials and departments to serve residents throughout St. Francois County.
Reflecting on his years in office, Gallaher pointed to several accomplishments that stand out from his tenure.
With his retirement now official, attention will turn to the future leadership of county government. Gallaher offered advice for the next person who will hold the office of presiding commissioner.
He thanked the community for their support over the years. He also mentioned that he has enjoyed working for the people.
Gallaher has served as presiding commissioner for the past 12 years and will remain in office through the end of 2026. His retirement will take effect on December 31, 2026.
