St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department Boosts Patrols Ahead of Holiday Travel

St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - As holiday travel gets underway this week, the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department is continuing a special traffic safety program aimed at keeping motorists safe.

Sheriff Jeff Crites says the department launched the program last month with the help of a grant that allows for additional patrols and enforcement during high-traffic periods.

Sheriff Crites says the increased enforcement focuses on dangerous driving behaviors, including speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving, which tend to increase during busy holiday travel times. In addition to enforcement, Sheriff Crites offered several tips for motorists heading out for the holidays.

He encourages drivers to slow down, buckle up, avoid distractions, and plan ahead, especially if traveling long distances or during peak travel hours. Sheriff Crites also reminds drivers to be alert for road construction, noting that work continues on several roadways throughout St. Francois County.

Drivers are urged to watch for changing traffic patterns, obey posted work zone speed limits, and give crews plenty of space. The Sheriff’s Department says the added patrols will continue through the holiday travel period.
