St. Francois Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Election day is underway in St. Francois County, and voters are seeing a major change at the polls. For the first time, the county is using a new voting system. County Clerk Kevin Engler calls the update “a huge change” for the county, noting it will improve efficiency and save taxpayers money.
Engler explains that one of the reasons for the change is to eliminate the need to pre-print ballots that may not be used, which often results in wasted resources.
Polling locations are open until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Any St. Francois County voter can now vote at one of four new locations:
- North County High School (back gym)
- Mineral Area College (MACTech Building)
- Weber Road Voting Center
- First State Community Center (formerly the Centene Center)
Voters who normally vote in Bismarck or Leadwood can still use their original polling stations, but they are also welcome at the new locations. Engler emphasizes that this flexibility ensures everyone has convenient access to the polls.
