Ste. Genevieve Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a phone scam in which callers are pretending to be deputies.
The scammers claim there’s a warrant for the person’s arrest and insist the only way to resolve it is by sending money. Officials stress this is not true, the Sheriff’s Office will never call to inform someone of a warrant or request payment over the phone.
If a legitimate warrant exists, a uniformed deputy will contact you in person. Residents are urged not to send money or share personal information with anyone claiming to represent law enforcement over the phone.
If you’ve received one of these scam calls, contact the Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 573-883-5820.
