Ste. Genevieve Man Charged After Missing Illinois Teen Found in Apartment

Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) - A Ste. Genevieve man is facing multiple felony charges after police located a missing Rockford, Illinois, teenager in his apartment, according to a press release from the Ste. Genevieve City Police Department.

Prosecutors have charged 26-year-old Sean N. Coffey with four counts of second-degree statutory rape. He is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. Ste. Genevieve police reportedly were contacted by an officer from a Winnebago County, Illinois, police department who believed a missing 16-year-old girl was at Coffey’s residence. When officers went to the apartment, they located the teen, who had been reported missing from Rockford, located near the Illinois–Wisconsin border. They say that the teen told investigators she met Coffey on Snapchat and that she had originally told him she was 18 before later admitting she was 16. She also told investigators Coffey picked her up from her home in Rockford on November 3.

Coffey admitted during an interview with police that he drove to Rockford to pick up the teen and that he had multiple sexual encounters with her. He told investigators he believed she was 18 or 19 but was unsure of her exact age.

An initial court appearance for Coffey has not yet been set.
