Ste. Genevieve Police K9 Ozzy Receives Protective Body Armor

Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) - The Ste. Genevieve Police Department’s K9 Ozzy has received a new bullet- and stab-resistant vest thanks to a charitable donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The vest is embroidered with the message, “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 2009 that provides protective body armor and support to law enforcement K9s across the country. The vests are U.S.-made, custom fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice. Since its founding, the organization has distributed more than 6,300 vests nationwide, valued at nearly $7 million, through private and corporate donations.

The program is available to law enforcement K9s that are at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified, including those with expired vests.
