Potosi, Mo. (KFMO) - Residents interested in weather and serving their community will have the chance to become trained storm spotters this spring.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis, along with regional partners, is offering a series of free storm spotter classes to help prepare the public for severe weather season. One of those sessions will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Washington County Ambulance District Headquarters, located at 6900 Bill Gum Business Blvd. in Potosi. No registration is required to attend.
The two-hour class teaches attendees how thunderstorms develop, how to identify storm features, and what to look for when spotting. Participants will also learn when and how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service, along with key safety information.
Organizers say the training is ideal for anyone who wants to become a volunteer storm spotter or those who simply want to better understand severe weather threats in their community.
