Washington, D.C. (KFMO) - The summer travel season is approaching, and drivers are likely to feel the impact of higher fuel prices as vacation travel ramps up across the country.
According to AAA, tensions involving the war with Iran are helping drive up oil prices, contributing to more expensive gasoline nationwide. Despite the increase at the pump, AAA says Americans are still expected to travel in large numbers this summer.
Lori Weaver Hawkins with AAA says demand for summer travel remains high, even with fuel prices climbing heading into the busy vacation season.
Hawkins also explains that gas prices typically rise this time of year because oil refiners begin switching to summer gasoline blends, which are more expensive to produce but are required during warmer months to help reduce emissions.
AAA reports the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is currently four dollars and fifty cents, with prices varying by region.
Travel experts encourage motorists to plan ahead, compare fuel prices, and budget for higher travel expenses as the summer season gets underway.
