Leadwood, Mo. (KFMO) - A trespassing investigation in the Richwoods area has resulted in the arrest of a man on drug trafficking and other charges.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a property in the Richwoods area after receiving a report of subjects trespassing.
During the investigation, deputies used the Washington County Sheriff's Office drone to search the surrounding area. A white male was located in a wooded area adjacent to the property, lying on the ground in what deputies said appeared to be an attempt to conceal himself from law enforcement.
The man, identified as Colt Hayes, was located and taken into custody without incident.
According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies located a black bag on Hayes. Inside, they found a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, along with a separate bag containing a white powder that field tested positive for fentanyl.
The Sheriff's Office says further investigation determined Hayes had previously been arrested for trespassing at the same property.
The case was submitted to the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Hayes has been formally charged with trafficking drugs in the second degree, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing.
Bond has been set at $75,000 cash only.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says fentanyl poses a serious risk to both users and first responders and that the department remains committed to addressing illegal drug activity in the community.
