Three Injured in Iron County Crash Thursday Afternoon, Woman Arrested

Iron Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Iron County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 4:22 p.m. on Highway 21, about two miles north of Pilot Knob. Troopers say a southbound 2007 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 49-year-old woman from Pilot Knob failed to yield to a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 20-year-old man from Ironton, causing the collision.

The female suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Medical to St. Louis University Hospital. The man sustained moderate injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis. A passenger in the truck, a 24-year-old woman from Bonne Terre, also received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Iron County Medical Center. Troopers report that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles were totaled towed from the scene.

The 49-year-old was later arrested and identified as Tanya L. Phillips Fortner. She faces several charges, including felony driving while intoxicated resulting in physical injury, failure to yield to an approaching vehicle, failure to register a motor vehicle, no seat belt, and no insurance.
