Time Change Brings Earlier Sunsets, Need to Change Batteries in Detectors

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Residents across the Parkland will be turning back their clocks this weekend as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end.

The official change takes place at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 2, when clocks “fall back” one hour to Standard Time. The shift means an extra hour of sleep for many, but also earlier sunsets throughout the area.

In the Parkland, sunrise and sunset times highlight the change, on Monday, October 27, sunrise will be at 7:22 a.m. with sunset at 6:08 p.m. After the time change, on Sunday, November 2, sunrise will occur at 6:27 a.m., and sunset will come earlier, at 5:03 p.m.

Farmington Fire Chief Kyle Carter says the time change is also a good reminder to replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Carter also notes that every home should have a smoke detector in each sleeping area, one in the hallway outside of bedrooms, and at least one on every level of the house. As the days grow shorter, safety officials urge residents to stay mindful of the earlier darkness and take time to make sure their homes are properly equipped for the season.
