Tips to Prevent Injuries After Winter Weather Moves Through the Parkland

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Although the recent winter weather has already moved through the Parkland, officials say injury risks remain as lingering ice and cold temperatures continue to create hazardous conditions.

Emergency responders report many injuries happen days after a storm, often from slips and falls on icy sidewalks, steps, and parking lots. Residents are encouraged to wear footwear with good traction, walk slowly, and watch for black ice, especially in shaded areas. Drivers are reminded that refreezing can occur overnight, making roads slick during the morning and evening hours. Slowing down, increasing following distance, and avoiding sudden movements can help prevent crashes. Officials also warn against overexertion while shoveling or clearing remaining snow and ice. Taking breaks, using proper lifting techniques, and knowing personal limits can reduce the risk of muscle strains and other injuries.

Officials say staying cautious even after the storm has passed can help prevent injuries as winter conditions linger across the area.
