Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Two De Soto men were hospitalized early Tuesday morning after their vehicle struck a deer on Missouri Highway 21 in Jefferson County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 12:39 a.m. on southbound MO-21, just south of MO-M. A 2019 Ford EcoSport, driven by 77-year-old De Soto resident, was traveling in the second lane when it hit a deer in the roadway. The impact caused the vehicle to continue forward before coming to rest on the right shoulder. The driver and a 36-year-old male occupant, also from De Soto, both suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
Authorities say both men were wearing seat belts at the time. They were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South for treatment.
The vehicle sustained total damage and was towed from the scene.
