Two Homes Damaged in Early Morning Fire in Herculaneum

Herculaneum, Mo. (KFMO) - An early morning fire in Herculaneum damaged two homes Wednesday, prompting a large mutual aid response.

According to the Herculaneum Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 6:57 a.m. to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Hammond Drive. When the first unit arrived, firefighters found a fast-moving fire that was spreading to a neighboring home. The incident was quickly upgraded to a second alarm to bring in additional manpower and equipment. Residents from both homes were safely evacuated without injury, and the fire was brought under control within about an hour.

Mutual aid departments from across Jefferson County assisted, including Dunklin, Festus, Crystal City, Antonia, Rock Community, Jefferson R-7, Goldman, and Hillsboro Fire Protection Districts, as well as the De Soto City Fire Department and Joachim-Plattin EMS. Crews remained on the scene for overhaul and to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
