Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Two drivers were injured Monday evening following a crash along a busy stretch of Highway 21 in Washington County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5:55 p.m. on May 4, 2026, on Missouri Highway 21 just south of Shoal Road.
The crash happened when a 74-year-old Potosi man driving northbound attempted to turn left and entered the path of a southbound vehicle driven by a 57-year-old Potosi man. The southbound vehicle struck the turning car and then traveled off the right side of the roadway, hitting a tree before coming to rest blocking the southbound lane.
Both drivers sustained moderate injuries. The 57-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported by the Washington County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital South. The 74-year-old driver, who was wearing a safety device, was taken to Washington County Memorial Hospital.
Both vehicles involved, a 2003 Ford Focus and a 2006 Ford Fusion, were totaled and removed from the scene.
