Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says deputies handled a sharp increase in calls for service during the second quarter of 2026, highlighting the continued demands placed on law enforcement and corrections personnel.
From April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a total of 4,774 calls for service, according to information released by the department.
Officials say that averages out to approximately 52 calls per day, with the calls handled through 24-hour coverage provided by just nine full-time road deputies serving Washington County.
The sheriff’s office compared the second-quarter numbers to the first quarter of 2026, when deputies handled 3,812 calls for service, averaging about 42 calls per day.
That represents an increase of 962 calls, or approximately a 25% rise in call volume over the previous quarter.
The increase in calls comes as deputies continue responding to incidents across Washington County while maintaining round-the-clock patrol coverage.
In addition to patrol responsibilities, the Washington County Jail also saw continued activity during the same time period. The jail booked 363 inmates between April and June, reflecting the ongoing workload faced by both patrol and corrections divisions.
Sheriff’s officials say the numbers demonstrate the continued commitment of department personnel who work daily to provide law enforcement services throughout Washington County.
