Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The National Weather Service in St. Louis is keeping a close watch on a developing weather system that could bring wintry precipitation to portions of the region this weekend.
Forecasters say two very different scenarios remain possible, and the final outcome will depend on how cold air and incoming moisture line up. In the first scenario, if colder air holds in place as moisture moves in, parts of the area, especially from St. Louis northward and into Central Missouri, could see a period of wintry precipitation. This could include a mix of sleet, snow, or freezing rain, though it’s too early to determine amounts or timing.
However, if warmer air pushes farther north, the entire region would instead see a cold, steady rain. Meteorologists expect to gain better clarity over the next couple of days as models come into better agreement.
The NWS advises residents to stay updated on the latest forecasts as the holiday weekend approaches.
