Work Halted on Route 8 Bridge Project After Worker Injured

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Construction on the Missouri Route 8 bridge deck rehabilitation project in Washington County has been temporarily suspended following a work site incident Monday afternoon, November 10.

According to officials, a contract worker sustained non-life-threatening injuries while on the job. First responders closed the roadway to treat the worker and transport them for additional medical evaluation. The route later reopened to the existing work-zone setup, which has maintained a single lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals since the project began earlier this year.

The Missouri Department of Transportation, S & A Equipment & Builders, and Union Pacific Railroad are investigating the incident. All work at the site has been halted, and officials say it is unclear how long the stoppage will last pending the outcome of the investigation.

MoDOT reports the pause in construction will impact the planned traffic shift needed to begin work on the second half of the bridge.
