Mental Health Ranks as Top Concern for Voters, New Study Finds

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - New research suggests politicians may be missing an opportunity to connect with voters on an issue that continues to grow in importance, mental health.

A study led by University of Missouri professor Jake Haselswerdt found that mental health ranks among the top policy concerns for voters in the United States. According to the research, the issue is considered more important than several high-profile topics, including border security, potential TikTok bans, and proposals such as a billionaire tax.

Haselswerdt says the findings highlight just how significant mental health has become in the minds of voters, calling it an issue that continues to gain attention nationwide.

He also noted that mental health challenges are increasing, reinforcing the urgency for policymakers to address the topic more directly.

Researchers say the results suggest candidates and elected officials who focus on mental health policy may be better positioned to connect with voters, especially as awareness and concern surrounding the issue continue to grow.
