Chiefs Escape Thursday Night's Nail Biter Against Ravens

(Kansas City, MO) The Kansas City Chiefs picked up a season opening win over the Baltimore Ravens by a toenail, 27-20 on Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

A desperation drive by the Ravens came to a head with a push for the end zone with five seconds left to play. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson desperately evaded tackle to keep the play alive before finding TE Isaiah Likely in the back of the end zone.

As the celebration of the touchdown quickly shifted to a scramble to get back to the line and set up a potential game winning 2-point conversion, the NFL Officials Review began.

Replay showed Likely had landed with his toe on the end line, therefore being out of bounds and the play was ruled an incomplete pass ending the game.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 20-of-28 passes for 291 yards and a touchdown. Rashee Rice collected 103 receiving yards on seven receptions, and Isaiah Pacheco ran for 45 yards on 15 carries.

Jackson attempted 41 passes, connecting on 26 for 273 yards. He also rushed for 122 yards on 16 attempts. Derrick Henry had 13 rushing opportunities for 46 yards. Likely made nine reception for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Kansas City (1-0) hosts Cincinnati on Sunday, September 15.
